About

So, who am I?

Well, my name is Claire, I’m 21 and I am a freelance rallying journalist and event media officer.

To put it simply, I love the WRC, it is my passion. Although I will whine to high heaven about my “frostbitten fingers”, the lack of showers and hair straightners and of course the abysmal toilets out on a rally stage, I love nothing more than being in the middle of the Welsh forests, you just can’t beat standing almost knee deep in mud, rain battering the side of your face with rally car after rally car shooting out of the fog.

My Dad is to blame for introducing me to the sport and from a young age I was more than happy to watch it on the TV or head out into the stages, but it was meeting Richard Burns at the tender age of 15 that really got me hooked.

I will be the first to admit that the WRC has got a bit tedious over the past few years but I am still as addicted as I ever was. Being a journalist I’m not supposed to have favourites but Petter Solberg has always been my guy and recently I have developed a bit of a soft spot for Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala. I’m even starting to warm to Seb Loeb but that’s not something I really want to shout from the rooftops about. I am also a firm supporter of the Richard Burns Foundation and volunteer for them whenever I can.wales-rally-gb-the-fans-story_0201

With Remote:Service I want to give fellow rally fans a perspective of the sport that is actually from a fan’s perspective. Yeah it’s a serious sport and I for one can get very serious about it, (especially when it comes to defending Solberg who I will defend ’til the end) but the average rally fan is far from being serious.

We know how to appreciate our sport and how to have fun.

We allow ourselves to get soaked to the skin standing in the middle of forests in the middle of winter but we love it. We get up at at 5am and trek for hours to get to the best ‘spot’. We cook our food on open fires, we get frost bite, we know how to wave flags and use air horns, we know how to make our drivers feel special. Rally fans are unique in the motorsport fraternity and I want to celebrate this.

Remote:Service is the place to come for honest, opinionated views of all the goings on in the WRC. I don’t want to provide only pure data and stats but delve into the historical trivia and weird and wonderful things that make the WRC what I believe to be the best motorsport championship out there, leagues above all the roundy roundy stuff.

Being a female rally fan and if I may say so myself a rather young one at that, I will occassionally direct a post solely at all the girls out there who are as devoted to the sport as much as I am. With all the fine specimins our sport boasts it would be unfair to pass them by, but I can assure all the guys out there that I will do my best to keep these posts to a minimum.
